Animal Sanctuary with Lush Cosmetics

Animal Sanctuary with Lush Cosmetics

I am so excited for today today is a really exciting day we are heading out, and (when I say we, I mean myself and my workmates)
I work at LUSH cosmetics we are heading out to Matakana today to
visit the animal sanctuary because a lot of the products that we use now have
aquafaba in them, which is the chickpea brine and we have mass amounts chickpeas
leftover so we actually ship them off to the Matakana animal sanctuary and then
the animals can enjoy them, and there’s no waste. So, today we are visiting the
animal sanctuary I’m really really excited about that we’ve also got a
really cool Christmas event so I’ll have to wait until the Christmas
products are out, to be able to put this vlog out but we’re gonna go inside my
work today! we’re just going to ignore the mess on my bed
Just ignore that.
I am wearing my LUSH “hello gorgeous” employee top with my sea shepherd hat.
I’ve got these cool pants on that I got from the op shop and there were four
dollars $4 and I absolutely love them and I’m really excited to be going out to
Matakana today to visit all the animals. It’s somewhere I’ve wanted to go for
ages so it’s a very casual look today. I am grabbing my breakfast on the run,
I’m running a bit late this morning and to probably explain
what’s going on today WE get sent our Christmas products at LUSH sort of in the middle of September, not sure when the launch is going to be, but we get a
first kind of look at them as staff members and that is so that we can
learn about the products, educate ourselves on what ingredients are in
them and then obviously when lots of lovely people call on the phone, we can
answer any questions you have about the products. For those of you who aren’t
familiar with this channel I work in the LUSH warehouse
so I packaged all of the online orders. I’ve got my own little face sticker that
I put on the box and I love my job! I’m very lucky to work at Lush Cosmetics & I
absolutely love it! Last year they sent me to Manchester, there are lots of Vlogs
on that that you can watch… today’s gonna be really really fun we’re having a
staff day & we’re all getting together to try out these new products and then
we’re heading off to Matakana Animal Sanctuary. As I said before we’re also
going to have lunch in Matakana and then later on today I’m going to get my
nails re-done. I’m actually getting them
short today but that’s because at Christmas time I package – we as a team – we package around three to five hundred 300 – 500 orders sometimes in a day! So, these
need to go because I need to have them nice and short and functional. So I’m
really excited for today, I’m running a bit late though I better get on the
road, this is my breakfast. Haha let’s go! Shawn from The Animal Sanctuary speaking:
“The two mothers are kind of, we’ve never
had it happen before…. the two mother ducks are kind of co-parenting! How many are here?” Counting 1,2,3,4,5 …. Shawn explaining her hen rescues:
“So then they go through a period of time where they don’t lay eggs. Their bodies take a little break. They molt their feathers, and grow new ones, then start laying again. People call them ‘spent hens’ but that’s a misnomer.. It’s just because the farmer doesn’t want to feed them for 4-6 weeks through this period. So they’re all killed at 18 months. So now the farmers that I work with, they call me and say.. *well it used to be “Come and get them now, can you take them?” It used to be “come this weekend, take as many as you can and the rest are dead on Monday”. And now they say “This is just this weekend…” So we take 500-600 hens, but then they say… “well maybe we’ll just wait one more
week Shawn, you can come back next week and get the rest” They say “All right, you can come back next weekend and then they’ll be gone.” So I ring again the following weekend and ask if they’re gone and they say…. “No… we knew you’d call us back!”
*happy laughter* We put them to bed at night to be safe,
and we applied back in 2012 for a charity pot and we got $5,000 and my
volunteers did the work and the $5,000 went towards it, but that didn’t quite cover it
but I mean it went toward the materials so this is the house that LUSH built. so our promise to them is that they’ll
never be on the chain again! He’s fine with girls, but he was tortured by teenage
boys they electrocuted them and cut him he knows the difference between boys and
girls so he’s very wary around men. *all laughing and screaming* So, I’m home
I’ve just been to the nail salon just finished up there. We took my long nails
off, we filed them back. And now I’ve got short baby nails. I have a very
messy bed *laughs and I’ve had a fantastic day at the sanctuary. I’m exhausted now and I’m
very much looking forward to bed. Aska and I are off to bed…
She loves that heater! Today at the Matakana animal sanctuary, it was just so amazing.
The work that they do out there is incredible, they deserve donations and
actually there was one particular place that they showed us which was built
using the Lush charity pot partnership donations that they received. So this is a
really good example: these are the charity pots that Lush put out
and 100% of the donations minus tax go to the sanctuary or the charity or the
organization that partner with Lush. As you can see Aska is ready for bed and I am ready for the bed so I’m gonna sign off this vlog. Thanks so much for
watching, if you have any questions about anything that was featured in today’s
vlog just leave a comment down below. I will put some links in the description
box for any codes that I have any relevant info in regards to the Lush
Christmas range and the Matakana Animal Sanctuary and I’ll see everybody in the next one!
Bye!!!
