So what sustainable chemistry means for
me is – you know – the entire chemical sector, which means both the products of the chemical sector offers to the consumers, as well as the
entire manufacturing process of that chemical before it reaches the market,
right from sourcing of the raw material, to manufacturing to transportation to
the Marketplace, and then once it’s used by a customer, it goes back into the
environment. This entire chain of events being sustainable. So
sustainable chemistry is an emerging concept right now because I think across
the globe people have started realizing that some of the practices that we have
of consumption and you know the way we’ve been manufacturing stuff, the way
we have been sourcing stuff, the way we have been a mining stuff from
nature, this entire set of processes are somewhere
unsustainable and nature has been giving that indication to us in different
different manners that our way of living life is unsustainable. And that’s the
reason, because there is this realization in all dimensions of the entire society
across the globe – the people have started realizing that sustainable
chemistry is something that can address these issues, and that’s the reason it’s an
emerging concept.
